Purple & Lavender

Speaking for myself, I prefer weddings that are more casual.  The royal wedding with all it's pomp and ceremony was a big turn-off; give me small intimate celebrations with close family and friends any day.  I was lucky enough to play a part in just such an occasion recently.

Bride Brenda is the mum of one of my best friends and I was honoured when she asked me to do her wedding flowers.  She knew that she would be having a lacy dress with lilac in the bridesmaids' dresses.  So we design a sheaf bouquet filled with lots of long trailing foliage, Crystal Blush calla lilies, purple veronica and striking bear grass.  The handle was finished with a lavender ribbon and pearl pins to match the bridesmaids.

For the bridesmaids, Brenda chose lisianthus and calla lilies to carry on the purple/lavender theme.  Purple freesias helped to blend the colours, not to mention smelling divine.  To give the posies an extra wedding-y feel, I added a rim of gypsophelia to finish.

The lavender ribbon and pearl pins helped to accent the satin and pearlescent qualities of their dresses.

Flower girl Cadie arguably stole the show from the bride with her cute antics and adorable dress.  For her I created a basket of using mostly foliage and gypospelia.  Doing this meant it didn't need to be watered so heavily, making it lighter for a little girl to carry.  Small amounts of lisanthus and freesia added colour to keep the theme.

The groom's buttonhole was a classic design of calla lily with sweet freesia backed by ivy leaves.

For the best man and groomsmen, the design was the same save for the ivy leaves.

I think you'll agree they both looked rather dapper with it!

Proud mum of the groom warranted a slightly more elaborate creation.  For her I designed a corsage using the same calla lily and freesia base.  To make it more feminine, I added in some smaller ivy leaves and a little bit of gyp.

My last treat was getting to add the final flourish to the wedding cake.  The cake was created by Brenda's daughter-in-law, who just so happened to be another of my bestest ever friends, and to finish it off I added Ocean Haze roses to give it a splash of the lavender colour.

My heartiest and warmest of congratulations to the new Mr and Mrs Lee!
